Join Omaha Public Library and Beacon Story Lab for an evening of community member stories inspired by Omaha Reads' 2018 selection The Hate U Give, an award-winning young adult novel by Angie Thomas.

"Stories of Identity" is FREE and open to the public. The show will open with a performance by artist and inspirational poet, Withlove, Felicia.

Want to be a part of the show?

The night's theme is "I Am…," featuring true stories of identity. Story ideas can be pitched to Ally Karsyn, an award-winning journalist and founder of Beacon Story Lab, at ally@beaconstorylab.com. The pitch deadline is August 31.

Things to include in a pitch:

  • What was the inciting incident for this story? What set off your journey?
  • What was at stake? What did you stand to win or lose?
  • What happened? How has this situation changed you? What have you learned from it?
  • Why do you want to tell this story?

Final stories must be true, about you and told in 10 minutes or less, about 1,000-1,300 words. This is a curated show, meaning all stories go through a collaborative story-crafting process before being read from a page on stage.

Beacon Story Lab creates more courageous, compassionate and connected communities through the healing art of storytelling. More information at beaconstorylab.com.
