The Union for Contemporary Art strengthens the cultural and social landscape of our community by using the arts as a vehicle to inspire positive social change. We are currently seeking a passionate and self-motivated individual to support our Communications team in communicating The Union's work with our community.

POSITION Communications Assistant

As part of The Union's Communications team, the Communications Assistant will work closely with the Communications Director and will primarily be responsible for maintenance, development, and assessment of The Union's social media outreach. Other various duties related to this work include assistance with regular updating of the Union website, limited print and digital design work, and photo/video documentation of Union events and activities.

COMMITMENT Part-time position, approximately 20 hours/week. Must have flexible availability with an ability to help document and support programming occurring during evening and weekend hours.

COMPENSATION $20 hourly/non-exempt, earned PTO, paid holidays and sick days, retirement benefits with employer contributions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, oral, and written communication skills; the ability to work independently and with teams; and the ability to work effectively with a diverse public
  • Ability to proactively prioritize, manage time, and meet deadlines while juggling multiple duties and tasks
  • Enthusiasm for communicating via a variety of social media platforms and eagerness to pursue new opportunities for reaching new audiences
  • Eagerness to directly communicate The Union's work and mission with community members and members of the press
  • Working familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, and Google Docs
  • Photography and digital editing skills
  • Aptitude in fundamentals of design, including print, digital, and information
  • An interest in the arts with a basic understanding of various genres and processes is highly preferred


ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in developing social media content, particularly posts in direct promotion of upcoming Union events
  • Assist in maintaining social media content calendar
  • Facilitate posting of content via social media management tool
  • Create and manage Facebook events and Union presence in various community calendars
  • Assist in regular attention and response to comments, DMs, and other audience engagement
  • Regular evaluation of social media engagement analytics
  • Assist in building and maintenance of Union website pages
  • Assist with photo and video documentation of Union events and activity
  • Assist with photo editing and organization of archived content
  • Provide occasional assistance in text/image design for in-house print materials (program one-sheets, flyers, info sheets), digital banners, and other graphics for web use
  • Assist in meeting Union accessibility standards, including work in captioning of all video content and writing alt text for all images posted on social media or Union website
  • Other duties as assigned.
