This summer, the Union's Performing Arts program presents its second annual summer reading series, Plays Out Loud!, featuring works that seek to inspire meaningful conversations around issues of social justice. All performances are free and open to the public.

Prosper is a fisherman trying to get by in the face of everyday problems. When a slippery eel salesman arrives in town peddling progress to the rural community, Prosper gets a lesson in gift horses and generosity. A Man A Fish was inspired by real-life events in Burundi and is a part of Donna-Michelle St. Bernard’s 54ology project, which seeks to provide artistic responses to contemporary and historical events in Africa.

Spunk is three short stories by Zora Neale Hurston adapted for the stage by George C. Wolfe and featuring music by Chic Street Man. This critically acclaimed adaptation was originally developed at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and was first presented in New York as a co-production of the New York Shakespeare Festival and Crossroads Theater Company.
