Brielynn (Peer Mentor)

Meet Brielynn

My name is Brielynn and I am a first time peer mentor at The Union for Contemporary Art. I am also new to working with youth professionally. The idea of incorporating my love for art and spending time with youth sounds very fun and inspiring. I like working with many materials, and enjoy painting, clay, digital art, and other mixed media. I believe there are many ways to create art, for example, drawing, painting, digital art, sculpting, sewing… I’m not afraid to explore a variety of themes, techniques, and just plainly get wild and crazy with it. Art is what you want it to be. When you create something, what do you want people to feel looking at the piece, what do you want to express, what does it represent? My view of art is that it's a way to communicate and express oneself and a way to pass time. I feel that art can be therapeutic to anyone who is creating art or enjoys looking at art. During my time at The Union, I hope to help, encourage, teach, and inspire youth and others around me to search and maybe find their voice through art.

If you could be any animal, what would it be? Why?

I would probably be a jellyfish because they just float and relax. No one messes with them because they're scared of being stung.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be? Why?

I would be a 2 toned pastel; one half canary yellow and one half inky black.

What is your favorite quote or motto?

"Remember, reality is an illusion, the universe is a hologram, buy gold, bye." Bill Cipher
