Introduction to Linoleum Carving

Instructor: Toan Vuong

A once-a-week workshop on Wednesdays for four weeks:
March 4: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
March 11: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
March 18: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
March 25: 5:30-7:30 p.m.

This workshop teaches participants to plan and carve a single color linoleum relief block. Participants will do a preliminary plan for coloring, carving, and printing their blocks using multiple layers.

Cost: $120 + registration fee

Handbuilding Basics

Instructor: Trudy Swanson

A once-a-week workshop on Wednesdays for four weeks:
March 4: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
March 11: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
March 18: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
March 25: 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Learn foundational handbuilding techniques including pinch, coil, and slab construction while creating functional ceramic pieces. The class will also introduce glazing and underglazing. No prior experience required.

Cost: $135 + registration fee

A once-a-week workshop on Wednesdays for six weeks:
April 1: 5:30-7:30 p.m.

April 29: 5:30-7:30 p.m.
May 6: 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Using clay as a medium, participants will transform their personal interests and passions into tangible works of art. This class offers a supportive environment where creators engage in discussions and receive personalized guidance, helping them problem-solve and build the skills to bring their unique artistic vision to life. Open to all levels.

Cost: $185 + registration fee

Introduction to Sewing

A once-a-week workshop on Saturdays for two weeks:
April 18: 2:30-4:30 p.m.
April 25: 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Introduction to Sewing covers the essential skills needed to begin working with fabric. Over two sessions, participants will learn machine basics, seam construction, and foundational techniques while creating a finished piece. No prior experience required.

Introduction to Screen Printing

A once-a-week workshop on Saturdays for two weeks:
April 18: 2:30-4:30 p.m.
April 25: 2:30-4:30 p.m.

This screen printing workshop introduces students to the foundational skills and tools needed to create single-color prints using pre-burned screens. Participants will learn the full process from design setup to printing and curing, with hands-on practice and guidance included. The class is designed to be simple, engaging and accessible for first-time printers.

Foundations in Wheel-Throwing

Instructor: Matthew O’Reilly

A once-a-week workshop on Saturdays for four weeks:
May 9: 1:30-4:30 p.m.
May 16: 1:30-4:30 p.m.
May 30: 1:30-4:30 p.m.
June 6: 1:30-4:30 p.m.

This four-week class offers a hands-on introduction to wheel-thrown ceramics for adults interested in learning the basics of clay and pottery making. Students will develop foundational throwing skills while also learning trimming, handle-making, and glazing. The course will include two bisque firings and one final glaze firing.

Cost: $185 + registration fee

Print Workshop Sampler

Curious about printmaking? This two part sampler introduces participants to foundational print techniques through guided experimentation. Explore materials, processes, and image-making while creating finished prints in a supportive studio environment. All skill levels are welcome.

Introduction to Crochet

A once-a-week workshop on Saturdays for two weeks:

Learn some of the basics of crochet in this interactive workshop. A brief history of the craft, basic stitches and pattern reading will be covered while each participant creates a unique project.

Registration: Tickets are sold at Joslyn.org. Pre-registration required and very limited spaces available

Choose one session:
• Saturday May 30, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
• Saturday June 27, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
• Saturday July 25, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.

Each session begins at The Joslyn in the exhibition Through the Lens. Museum staff will facilitate engaging conversations in the exhibition, with time to look and reflect on your own. Then, with a beverage and snack bag in hand, we’ll travel via personal vehicles to The Union for Contemporary Art. The Union staff will lead us in a photography walk activity in their Abundance Garden, followed by a chance to develop a print of your own work in their co-op studio darkroom. We will use 35mm cameras.

The Union has a small number of cameras that participants can share; if you have a 35mm camera, please bring it.

Darkroom Photography Sampler

Explore the magic of analog photography in this two-session darkroom workshop. Participants will develop black-and-white film and produce their own photographic prints while learning essential darkroom techniques. No prior experience required.
