Michael Elizabeth Johnson - “Bacchanalia”

On View: Cali Commons (518 N 40th St.) // Thursday, December 3–Sunday, December 6

Bacchanalia is an explosion of soft sculpture, furry chickens, fashion photography, DIY zine culture, and pseudo-religious screenprints.

Trans, interdisciplinary artist and 2020 Union Fellow, Michael Elizabeth Johnson, explored new mediums while in Fellowship this year. He transformed ideas of past works into new ways of expression and form.

“For this show, I’m going to show all the art that I’ve made this year. All the zines I’ve made in 2020 and the ones I’ve published, all my sculpture, my prints, and my look-book documentation. It’s going to celebrate my personal and artistic growth in 2020 and ask audiences to take a moment to celebrate themselves and their friends for surviving a wild year.”

Bacchanalia is a safe, social distanced installation. To view please contact: m.e.johnson613@gmail.com or program coordinator Mary Lawson: mary@u-ca.org to schedule your visit.
