Corinne (Peer Mentor)

Meet Corinne

My name is Corinne Roberts and I am a first time peer mentor at The Union for Contemporary Art. I have worked with youth during the Burke soccer camp. I integrated my love for soccer, teamwork, and working with youth during this experience. Someone that has influenced my art is my pottery teacher, Ms. Hanisch. I’ve learned so much from her and I'm thankful for her guidance. I enjoy working with clay, paints, and more. I like trying new materials and mixed media. I often make art according to how I'm feeling. Themes of creativity and emotions can be found in my work. I often utilize materials around me such as leftover cloth or buttons. To me, art is used as an outlet to express and observe. It can be interpreted in so many different ways which is something I love about it. During my time at union, I would like to explore my passion and help others along the way. Building relationships and teamwork is important will be key in this clique.

Who inspires you?

Rock Lee from Naruto inspires me. He’s a talented fighter that never gives up. He also continues to surprise and impress viewers like myself with the many tricks and unique abilities of his. I strive to be determined like him.

If you could be any animal, what would it be? Why?

If I could be any animal I would be a bird. I love that they fly and they symbolize freedom to me. Secondly, whenever my mom sees blue jays and cardinals she says it’s her grandparents visiting. I’ve always imagined that I would be a bird in my next life.

What is something most people don’t know about you?

Something that most people don’t know about me is that I have vitiligo. It’s a condition where the skin or hair loses its pigmentation (melanin). I have few spots so most people are unaware.
